WEEK 1 & 2 SENIOR UPDATE BY DAN DOUGLAS
The fourths have also had a tough start to the season and have come against two of the better sides in their division. They started at home to Charnock St James with a very young (and old) side. Batting first they scored just 67 for 9 off their 45 overs. There were signs of promise from Matt Howarth (19), Matthew Wignall (18) and Zac Procter (13 not out) though. The experienced Calderbank (3 for 20) made some inroads into the Charnock batting lineup but they were never really threatened as they knocked the runs off for 4 wickets. There was a first senior wicket for Zac Procter to cheer however.
This was followed by an even tougher trip as they had a local derby against Grimsargh 2nd Team. Grimsargh batted first and racked up a formidable looking 269 for 9. In amongst all of the carnage there was still some good bowling from some of the juniors with Thomas Douglas taking 3 for 46 from 8 overs and Ewan Atkinson being the most economical of them with 1 for 21 from 9 overs. The Longridge reply started brightly with the Rhodes boys (Jack and Andy) knocking the ball around and looking good. The introduction of the wily Prince Davis changed all this as he bamboozled the Longridge batsmen taking a frankly ridiculous 9 for 5 in just 7.1 overs. So all in all it has been a tough start for an inexperienced fourth team but in amongst it there are signs that that future is bright.
